THE search of the River Barrow in Athy looked set to continue into Tuesday, after reports of an elderly man going into the water on Sunday (22 February).
According to a source close to the search the man is reported to be 80 years old who “went for a walk along the river" and entered the water.
Search and rescue volunteer teams from both Dublin and Athlone Sub-Aqua Clubs are due to return on Tuesday morning “to search a stretch down as far as Dr McDougall’s old surgery”.
It is believed the missing man is married with adult children.
A garda spokesperson confirmed the search was ongoing with the assistance of Kildare Civil Defence and Kildare Fire Services.
