Footpath sought to connect Kildare village with GAA club
Nurney, Kildare
THE possibility of outside funding for a footpath between Nurney Village and the local GAA club was raised at a recent council meeting.
Cllr Veralouise Behan brought forward a motion at the most recent meeting of Athy Municipal District proposing that Kildare County Council installs a footpath between the village and Nurney GFC.
Council engineer Kevin Dunne issued the council’s response, stating that the proposed footpath “would involve a substantial land take and design, and a source of funding would have to be identified first".
Speaking at the meeting, cllr Behan said that the foothpath was first proposed in 2019 by cllr Martin Miley Jr. She said that there is a speeding issue at the location.
Cllr Aoife Breslin agreed with cllr Behan but said that the cost would be huge and mentioned the possibility of outside funding.
Councillors were told in 2019 that the cost of the footpath would be in the region of €300,000. The distance from the village to GAA club is 1km.
