Green Flag returns to two Kildare landmarks
The Zero Waste Community Garden in Rathcoffey
BOTH the Liffey Linear Park in Newbridge and the Zero Waste Community Garden in Rathcoffey have been honoured with green flag awards at An Taisce’s 2025 Green Flag Awards ceremony, held recently at NUI Maynooth.
The linear park first received its green flag in 2017, while the garden was first recognised in 2019, and both sites have successfully retained their Green Flag status each year.
The international Green Flag Award was awarded to 128 Irish parks, gardens, greenways and wildlife sanctuaries around the country on Wednesday, 12 November, an increase of eight awards since last year.
The awards were accepted on behalf of the Newbridge Tidy Towns Committee and Rathcoffey Zero Waste Committee, by the leasc-athaoirleach of Kildare County Council, cllr Veralouise Behan and Simon Wallace, acting senior parks and landscaping officer with the council.
Cllr Behan said: “It is a tremendous honour to see both the linear park and the community garden in recognised with these awards”.
“These achievements are a testament to the dedication and community spirit of the Newbridge Tidy Towns and Rathcoffey Zero Waste Committees, supported by Kildare County Council.
“Their commitment to sustainability and excellence ensures that our parks and green spaces continue to thrive for everyone in County Kildare. Congratulations to all involved.” An Taisce is the national operator and has delivered the Green Flag Award since 2016, which aims to encourage the provision of good quality public parks and green spaces that are managed in environmentally sustainable ways.
These achievements reflect the hard work and dedication of Newbridge Tidy Towns and Rathcoffey Zero Waste Committees, and Kildare County Council would like to congratulate both committees on their continued success.
