KILDARE gardaí detected a motorist travelling at 134 km/h in an 80 km/h speed limit zone during recent speed enforcement operations. The excessive speed was recorded despite the legal limit, with the driver exceeding it by 54 km/h.
The vehicle was stopped safely by Gardaí, and while officers were dealing with the driver, another passing motorist pulled over briefly and said: “He deserved that."
Gardaí used the incident to remind drivers that driving at such excessive speeds is a deliberate choice that significantly increases the risk to all road users, including families, cyclists, pedestrians, and fellow motorists.
“Public roads are not a race track. If you want to test your driving skills, book a session at the race track, not the roads shared with families, cyclists and other motorists,” said a garda spokesperson.
As a result of the offence, the driver was issued with a €160 Fixed Charge Notice and received three penalty points.
Kildare gardaí said: “Slow down. Arrive alive and please save the racing for the track.”
