A PROPOSAL to upgrade bus stop facilities near St Brigid’s Hospice in The Curragh was brought to the attention of Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District.
The motion, by cllr Peggy O’Dwyer, calls on the council to install a shelter at the existing bus stop serving the hospice, a move aimed at improving conditions for patients, visitors, and staff who rely on public transport.
Cllr O’Dwyer mentioned a recent visit to the area and said that she was not able to find the bus stop.
Cllr Chris Pender suggested that works here might future-proof the area for upcoming transport plans to tie into the orbital bus route.
In response, the council confirmed that the request is under consideration. According to a report issued by the Sustainable Transport and Traffic Management section, the proposed upgrade will be subject to a detailed assessment.
This review will examine the suitability of the location, taking into account road safety considerations and potential impacts on future bus scheduling.
The stops in question listed under reference numbers 104081 and 103961 will be evaluated to determine whether the installation of a shelter is feasible.
Should the site meet the necessary criteria, the proposal will move to the next stage, involving discussions with the National Transport Authority, the relevant service provider, and the Department of Defence, which owns the land.
