Garda Caroline Mulpeter receives her award from Assistant Commissioner Paul Cleary, Eastern Region

A GARDA stationed in Leixlip became one of eight recipients of a Scott Medal Award at a Commendation Ceremony in Kilkenny last Monday, 30 September.

Garda Caroline Mulpeter, currently stationed at Leixlip Garda Station, was awarded a Scott Medal Commendation Second Class in relation to an incident that occurred on 16 May 2011 in Maynooth, when Garda Mulpeter alongside her colleague Garda Lorna Reilly displayed exceptional courage and bravery.

This involved risk to life during the execution of their duty, intercepting an improvised explosive device (IED).

The bomb was discovered on a bus the day before the Queen of England’s visit to Kildare, and the Army Bomb Disposal Unit carried out a controlled detonation on the device at a bus stop outside the Glen Royal Hotel.

They were both awarded a Scott Medal Commendation, Second Class, and were among eight gardaí attached to the Eastern Region who were awarded Scott Medal Commendations of First and Second Class by Assistant Commissioner Paul Cleary, Eastern Region.
