A TEENAGE girl charged with a stabbing at the family home was sent for trial last week (23 April) to the present sittings of Naas Circuit Court after formal presentation of her book of evidence.

The 15-year-old girl appeared in the dock behind closed doors at Naas District Court with an older sibling as her appropriate adult.

The girl is charged with possession of weapon and assault causing harm at an address in north Kildare on 12 March 2025 when she was just 14 years old.

“Following an altercation in (named area) it is alleged she stabbed the injured party with a knife she had on her person,” said Sergeant Dave Hanrahan.

After giving her the alibi warning Judge Desmond Zaidan asked the girl if she understood the charges.

“You are shaking your head to acknowledge?” the judge asked.

“I will explain,” said her solicitor David Powderley, as the defendant appeared overwhelmed and visibily distressed. The teen acknowledged the charge quietly.

The judge remanded her on continuing bail on conditions previously agreed with the state to appear across the atrium at the earliest possible date to stand trial.

As she walked out with her sibling and solicitor, it became apparent she had a stuffed toy under her jacket.
