THE Craddockstown Golf Club in Naas has applied to replace their pro shop which was destroyed in an accidental fire a little over two years ago.

The fire on 14 May, 2024 was believed to have been started by an electrical fault at the golf buggy station beside the shop, but was dealt with in less than an hour and a half by appliances from Naas, Blessington and Newbridge. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the damage to the building was extensive.

Last week the club made its application to replace the fire-damaged, two-storey pro shop (c.287sqm) and replace it with a new pro shop, and a golf simulator facility.

Local architects MCLA of Naas have been given the job of designing the new facility, and a computer generated image of their plans have been generously supplied by the firm to illuminate this article.

Because the golf club on the Blessington Road possesses seven sizeable ponds and is has the flood-prone Castlesize stream just 175m from its boundary, it is of little surprise that most of the accompanying engineer’s report addresses this issue.

Along with a SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems) report, all the new landscaping around the proposed building will have permeable paving, and a soakaway built for the remaining hard surface retention to minimise the potential threat. A decision is due by 29 July.
