A MAN who allegedly bit the face of a pregnant woman enough to break the skin, was sent for trial to the circuit court, and remanded back into further custody to await this.
The man who has been in custody since the end of June is also charged with breaching a protection order four times this year at the same address.
“He has bail, but he’s not been able to take it up,” explained his solicitor Dave Powderley after the book of evidence was served.
Judge Desmond Zaidan asked to be refreshed of the details of the assault and Sergeant Mary Meade obliged.
“On the day in question (in 2024) he bit his partner on the face, and gardaí saw clear evidence of a bite on the left cheek,” she said.
On his last appearance on 11 November in Athy District Court, the investigating officer Garda Shauna Haugh revealed: “the male in custody bit the injured party’s face and broke the skin.” “She was pregnant at the time, and though she didn’t need stitches, she did need medical assistance,” said Garda Shauna Haugh.
Judge Zaidan gave the man his alibi warning, as he sent him for trial to the present sittings of Naas Circuit Court, which began on 13 January.
“There are no issues concerning my client’s fitness to stand (trial),” Mr Powderley assured the court.
“Any related summary charges they bring in and add to these charges will also come under the alibi warning,” said the judge.
