Kildare senator attends Katie Taylor doctorate ceremony

KILDARE senator, Aubrey McCarthy, has extended his congratulations to world renowned boxer Katie Taylor, who received an Honorary Doctorate in Legal Studies from Trinity College Dublin.
Senator McCarthy said he was honoured to attend the ceremony and join Katie and her family in celebrating this significant moment.
Speaking after the conferring, Senator McCarthy said:
“Katie Taylor continues to inspire Ireland and the world, not only through her extraordinary achievements in the ring, but through her humility, discipline, and unwavering commitment to excellence. Trinity College Dublin’s recognition of her contribution to sport and to Irish life is richly deserved. To witness Trinity College Dublin honour her in this way was a privilege, and I was deeply honoured to be included in the celebrations.” Trinity College Dublin described Taylor as “a beacon for women’s sport in Ireland” and noted that her impact on global sport is “impossible to overstate.” The university highlighted her status as both a world and Olympic champion, acknowledging her as one of the most influential figures in the history of women’s sport.
Katie Taylor was honoured alongside several distinguished recipients, including musician Sharon Shannon, writer Colm Tóibín, barrister Helena Kennedy, and Sister Helen Prejean, each recognised for their exceptional contributions to culture, literature, law, and human rights.
