Road traffic gardaí in Naas have carried out targeted enforcement on the L7041 at Barretstown, Newbridge, following a surge in complaints from local residents about dangerous driving in the area.
The stretch, which is a clearly marked 60km/h zone, has become a source of frustration and concern for those living along the road, with residents reporting increasing difficulty safely exiting their own driveways.
During the operation by the Naas Roads Policing Unit, multiple motorists were detected travelling above the legal limit including one individual travelling an eyewatering 111kph while others were detected travelling between 84-98kph.
Each driver caught speeding was issued a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice — amounting to a €160 fine and three penalty points while more serious charges are being considered.
Gardaí in a recent post on the an Garda Siochana Kildare Facebook page emphasised that the road is a local access route, “not a shortcut” and “not a racetrack,” warning that those who choose to speed are putting lives at risk.
The operation forms part of an ongoing focus on community safety, with Gardaí urging all motorists to slow down, stay alert and respect residents who live along the route.
