The upgraded car park at Kildare train station

Iarnród Éireann has completed a major upgrade of Kildare Station Car Park, with the work commencing in March of last year.

Car parking spaces increased from 135 to 165 spaces, an increase of 22 per cent.

Bike parking has increased six-fold, from 10 to 60 at the new bike shelters.

A new pedestrian entrance has been provided from the junction of Dunmurray and Fairgreen roads, and the main station entrance has been re-modelled with dedicated pedestrian footpaths, making it more accessible for all. Footpaths and crosspoints are now provided thoughout the car park which has been fully resurfaced with all line markings replaced.

New lighting has been installed throughout, along with a new CCTV system.

Future provision is in place for an additional 16 EV charging spaces, however, currently, two spaces with chargers provided.

There is also a new dedicated bus set-down area to facilitate multi-modal interchange.

“Other Kildare stations are also undergoing accessibility upgrades,” confirmed Iarnród Éireann spokesperson Jane Cregan.

“Work is ongoing at Athy and Maynooth stations and both are due to be completed this Autumn,” she revealed.

This upgrade is part of Iarnród Éireann’s national car park expansion programme.
