A Kildare civil defence team are competing at the World Rescue Organisation Challenge 2024 this week, after placing first in the country in the Rescue Organisation of Ireland National Trauma Competition.

This is the second-year members of Kildare Civil Defence who achieved national titles as trauma medics. This will now see the team represent Ireland in the World Rescue Challenge last year where they achieved 3rd place in the complex trauma challenge.

The team attending this year’s challenge consists of Shannan Reid, assistant civil defence officer and EMT and Aaron Cullen, civil defence volunteer and full-time firefighter/paramedic.

The team are currently the highest-ranking Irish trauma team at an international level. They will be assessed on their response in various trauma and casualty incidents.

They will be joined by trauma teams from Dublin Civil Defence and Wicklow Fire Service and a road traffic collision and extrication team from Dublin Fire Brigade at the challenge in Azores, Portugal which will see teams from 20 other countries participating in the challenge.
