Sallins is a rapidly growing village

SALLINS could potentially be in line for more than 400 new housing units over six years.

A report on the allocation of housing units to Sallins was published after information on the number of units planned or currently being built in the area was sought by cllr Bill Clear at the most recent meeting of Naas Municipal District.

Cllr Clear noted the area’s significant population growth and said that the facilities were not there to cater for the local population. He said that “everything if full” in the town and mentioned important amenities such as schools and access to doctors.

He suggested the development fees collected in the area should be invested in facilities in the village.

A report issued by Jane O’Reilly, acting senior planner at Kildare County Council, was published in response.

It outlined that Sallins was allocated 174 residential units in the Core Strategy of the Kildare County Development Plan 2023-2029.

The report further stated that a proposed variation of the plan was published in October and suggested a supplementary allocation of 250 units to the area in addition to the 174 units.

That proposed variation is to be considered by Kildare County Council in January, and a new settlement plan for Sallins will be informed by the final housing allocation agreed by the elected members.
