Kildare village gets over €25,000 to tackle invasive species

THE LOCAL Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO), working on behalf of Ireland’s 31 local authorities to protect and restore good water quality, awarded €27,676 to a project in Ballymore Eustace, Kildare.
Overall, €1,047,265.26 has been awarded across 54 projects in 24 counties under the ‘Community Water Development Fund Open Call 2025’.
Under the fund, local communities and groups were invited to apply to support the delivery of projects and initiatives to enhance local water bodies, water quality and biodiversity.
Ballymore Eustace Tidy Towns and Ballymore Eustace Environmental Group received the grant to assist efforts to control the invasive plant species ‘Himalayan Balsam’ along the River Liffey banks and environs from Ballymore Eustace to Harristown.
The funds will help the groups to support cutting back this invasive species to allow space for local biodiversity.
