A WOMAN who tried to hide four ounces (112.5g) of cocaine in her bra was remanded on continuing bail on strict conditions to return for DPP’s directions in February.
Detective Garda Evanna Harty gave evidence of the arrest, charge and caution of Annemarie Perse (51), of Flinter’s Close, Athy at only 2.46pm that day (23 September) before bringing her from custody to Athy District Court for an initial arraignment.
The detective explained that Ms Perse was facing three charges – possession, possession with intent to supply, and obstruction of a garda, and “made no reply to caution”.
“When we got to the address she refused to open the door and then tried to conceal the drugs in her underwear,” said Det Harty.
“Her underwear?” asked Judge Desmond Zaidan.
“Her bra,” the garda clarified.
With the formalities dealt with, gardaí said they had no objection to bail, as long as it was under strict conditions.
The judge ordered Ms Perse to sign on twice a week in Athy Garda Station, reside at her given address, provide a phone number to the gardaí within 24 hours – “which she hasn’t done yet” – before setting her bond at €1,000.
“How old is your client, Mr Larkin? The judge asked the defending solicitor.
“51,” came a soft voice from behind the custody glass.
