Learner driver in Kildare was at double the speed limit

A LEARNER driver was arrested in Kildare over the May Bank Holiday weekend after being caught driving at double the speed limit, with no insurance, no tax, and an expired learner permit.
According to An Garda Síochána, the vehicle was detected travelling at 120km/h in a 60km/h zone at Donadea during speed checks conducted in the area.
Upon stopping the driver, Gardaí found that the individual was a learner permit holder driving unaccompanied, and had no insurance and expired motor tax that was issued nine years ago.
The driver was arrested at the scene. Gardaí have confirmed that a court appearance will follow.
The incident is part of wider enforcement activity carried out across Kildare as part of road safety checks over the Bank Holiday weekend.
In total, Gardaí reported that 19 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, 29 vehicles seized for no insurance, no motor tax, driving while disqualified or unaccompanied learner drivers.
Multiple speed checks were also conducted at various locations, with “a number of notable speeds detected” In a statement, An Garda Síochána Kildare said:
“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. Let’s work together for safer roads.”
