The motion was submitted by cllr Pat Balfe has called for an inspection of two local roads near Kildare amid concerns over their condition and ongoing deterioration.
The proposal urges the council to assess the L3005 and L7070 routes, with a view to including them in upcoming maintenance, surface dressing, or resurfacing programmes.
In response, the Municipal District Office confirmed that a section of the L7070 is under consideration for inclusion in the 2026 road resurfacing programme. However, the L3005 has not been selected for resurfacing in that cycle. Officials stated that routine maintenance of the L3005 will continue.
A council representative said also said that road conditions will remain under review as part of ongoing infrastructure management efforts.
Cllr Balfe spoke to members of Kildare-Newbridge MD on the issue and said:
“It’s been called the worst road in Ireland. I don’t think maintenance will fix it.”
Cllr Suzanne Doyle agreed with cllr Balfe’s motion, adding that she lives nearby, and would be interested in getting the road costed. She noted that it is a common route for dumping.
Cllr Kevin Duffy was also in support of the motion, adding that when using the road himself, he “couldn’t believe how bad it was.” “It has to be in the top echelons of poor roads,” he said.
