A NEW fire station for Monasterevin has moved a step closer, with Kildare County Council confirming that a site has already been identified and preliminary agreements are in place.

Responding to a question from cllr Noel Connolly at a recent Kildare-Newbridge MD meeting, the council revealed that the fire service has secured agreement in principle for a location within the grounds of the recently acquired Moore Abbey lands.

However, the project’s progress now hinges on national funding. The council has formally applied to the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management to be included in the next round of capital funding allocations. Officials say they are “very hopeful of a positive outcome” following this request.

While no firm construction start date has been set, the council indicated that, based on experience from the development of the new fire station in Maynooth, a timeline of approximately two years can be expected from the publication of tender documents to the completion of the building.

In the meantime, the future of the existing Monasterevin fire station remains undecided. Council management will consider potential uses for the current site once plans for the new facility progress further.
