A NEW extension has been proposed for a local Rathangan school, Scoil Naisiunta Naomh Padraig, to enhance facilities for students with special educational needs (SEN).
The project will see the construction of a two-storey SEN Base. The ground floor will feature two classbases, each with an associated safe space, storage, WCs, a Changing Places facility, a central activities space with additional WCs, as well as an office and boiler room.
On the first floor, the extension will include four classrooms with ensuite WCs, a resource room and storage facilities.
As part of the development, an existing prefab will be removed and replaced with a new tarmacadam play area. A section of the existing boundary and trees will also be removed and replaced with new boundary treatments.
The existing changing rooms are to be demolished, making way for a new enclosed sensory garden and SEN play area.
The plans also include four additional car parking spaces in the existing car park, installation of a new gas tank with secure fencing, and the construction of new changing rooms.
Further works will cover associated landscaping, drainage, site services and ancillary improvements, ensuring the new facilities are fully integrated into the school grounds.
