A man in his 40s has died after a collision between an e-scooter and a car in Waterford city on Christmas Day.

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the collision, which occurred at the junction of Manor Hill (Bunker’s Hill) and Hennessy’s Road in Waterford city at approximately 11am.

The driver of the e-scooter, a male in his 40s, was taken to University Hospital Waterford where he was later pronounced deceased.

The driver of the car, a male in his 80s, was taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment of injuries believed to be non life-threatening.

No other injuries were reported.

Forensic Collision Investigators are conducting a technical examination of the scene and the roads remain closed. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on Manor Hill (Bunker’s Hill) and Hennessy’s Road between 10:45am and 11:15am are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
