A HGV truck was stopped on the N7 before it could cause a potentially serious accident, after gardaí discovered loose wheel nuts and defective tyres during a night-time operation on the N7.

The Naas Roads Policing Unit, working alongside RSA Enforcement Officers, carried out the targeted checks as part of a joint safety initiative. The truck was found to have loose wheel nuts on its drive axle, while further inspection revealed poor vehicle maintenance.

The vehicle was immediately impounded. Gardaí said that, had it not been stopped, the wheel could have come off on the busy motorway – posing a significant danger to other road users.

Drivers are being reminded to carry out proper daily walk-around checks before beginning any journey, while vehicle owners are urged to ensure their fleets are kept in a safe, roadworthy condition
