Netflix film shoot coming to Kildare
Rathangan Main Street
RATHANGAN Main Street is to be the temporary set for a new Netflix film based on the short story ‘Walk the Blue Fields’ by Irish author Claire Keegan, starring renowned Irish actor Andrew Scott and Hollywood actress Emily Blunt.
For three days from March 18 until March 20, filming is scheduled to take place between 1pm and 11.30pm each day.
The story, published in 2007, follows a priest who officiates a marriage ceremony for a past lover. It explores themes of desire, love and regret.
The story was adapted into script by Irish Playwright and Screenwriter, Conor McPherson, and was picked up by Netflix alongside Compelling Pictures, Element Pictures, and Ledbury Productions. The film will be directed in Ireland by John Crowley – the Irish director well-known for his work on the 2015 film Brooklyn.
Local businesses were notified by the production’s locations department in recent weeks, and have been warned that there may be changes to parking, traffic flow and pedestrian access during this time. However, it noted that every effort will be made to minimize disruptions and that access to homes and businesses should not be affected.
Local residents were excited about the news, remarking that the production taking place in Rathangan will be “brilliant for the town.”
