A NEW solar farm, called BNRG Maganey, may be coming to Kildare in the near future as advertised by Irish-owned renewable energy company BNRG.
The development is to be located in rural County Kildare near the townlands of Beaconstown, Johnstown North & South, Kilkea Upper and Crooket.
The company has invited the community to attend a public consultation clinic on Tuesday, 16 June 2026 at Castledermot Community Centre from 3.30pm to 6.30pm.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to contact Community Liason Officer, David Linnane, who is also available to answer any questions. He can be contacted at maganey@bnrg.ie or 086 255 8111.
BNRG has said that the solar farm would deliver 105MW* of solar power. It has also said that the 114 hectare site has been “carefully selected for its suitability for solar development” for being rural, low-lying and sheltered land which is strategically located near the national grid.
Once developed, the solar farm is projected to save 21,300 tonnes of carbon emissions annually and power the equivalent of 14,000 homes, supporting national climate and energy targets.
Subject to planning and participation in a Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS) auction, BNRG Maganey intends to establish a Community Benefit Fund, expected to contribute €1.8 million to the community over 15 years. The local community will be invited to participate and give views on how the fund can be best invested.
