New youth centre coming to Newbridge

Main Street, Newbridge
A dedicated youth facility is on the horizon for Newbridge, as Kildare County Council confirms plans to develop a centre aimed at supporting the growth and development of young people in the area.
The announcement follows a motion tabled by cllr Noel Heavey, requesting an update on plans for such a facility. In response, the council revealed that a suitable property in Newbridge has already been secured. The site will be transformed into a safe and inclusive space for young people, with the goal of fostering youth engagement and community participation.
According to the Senior Executive Officer in the Community Department, the project will be a collaborative effort.
“We are working with our Community Workers, Kildare Sports Partnership, and local community groups and organisations focused on youth services,” she said.
The aim is to identify the most suitable groups or organisations to manage the facility.
Work is currently ongoing with the Capital Team to determine the scope and cost of necessary upgrades to bring the building up to standard. Once the facility is ready for use, an expression of interest process will be launched to find a managing body.
The initiative marks a significant step in the council’s efforts to provide structured support and safe environments for young people in the Newbridge area.
“Thanks to Kildare County Council for the report. I would like it to be noted that the building shall be for community use, “ said cllr Heavey.
Seconder to the motion, cllr Chris Pender, emphasised the importance of the voices of young people with decision-making in relation to this project.
“Their voices are extremely important in this,” he said.
