THE INTRODUCTION of electronic town notice boards in Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District has been deferred due to resource constraints, councillors have been told.

Cllr Suzanne Doyle called for the local authority to advance a pilot project to install electronic notice boards, alongside a formal protocol outlining how the boards would be used and managed.

However, a report from the council’s strategic projects and public realm section said it currently lacks the capacity to undertake such a pilot.

The department outlined an extensive existing works programme, including two major construction projects set to begin in the coming months, with both Newbridge Library and Archives and Clane Library.

Funding has also been announced for phase two of the Grand Canal Greenway, the delivery of which will also fall under the SPPR team’s remit. In addition, it explained that the section is providing technical assistance on a range of projects for the council’s community, library and parks departments.

While stating that resources are not currently available to progress the electronic notice board initiative, the report noted that the proposal could be considered in the future as projects advance across the municipal districts.

Many councillors were in support of the motion, including cllrs Chris Pender and Brian O’Loughlin, as well as cllr Tracey O’Dwyer who suggested that the MD look to Athy, who have recently secured an electronic notice board, for ideas on progressing the motion forward.

“Let’s see what they did,” said cllr O’Dwyer.
