Proposed development at Station Road, Kildare Town

KILDARE County Council have published a Part 8 proposal for a new residential development at Station Road in Kildare Town.

The proposed development involves the construction of 30 new social housing units. The development will include a diverse mix of housing types, aimed at addressing a range of accommodation needs in Kildare. The design was part of the Department of Housing’s competition to create a community-focused development.

The proposed residential scheme consists of: 5 three-bedroom two storey duplex apartments; 1 three-bedroom three storey house; 2 two-bedroom two storey houses; 2 two-bedroom single storey apartments; 4 two-bedroom three-person single storey apartments; 6 two-bedroom two storey duplex apartments; and 10 one-bedroom single storey apartments.

The development will also involve significant site works, including the demolition of two existing cottages, the creation of a new vehicular and pedestrian entrance from Station Road, and the provision of 26 vehicle parking spaces, 54 resident bicycle parking s.paces, and 16 visitor bicycle parking spaces.

Cllr Suzanne Doyle told the council's housing team that she wants the new development to be a pilot development for Scandinavian drying rooms (a first for Ireland), to include universal bathrooms, and urged the council to switch out the three-bed dwellings for more two-bed's.

With decades of experience in housing behind her, she told cllrs and council representatives: "This is our time to be pedantic."
