Reported opening date of new Kildare service station revealed

THE NEW €15m Applegreen service station off the M7 in Kildare is expected during the first week of November, according to cllr Bill Clear, who says the development marks the transformation of the county’s largest derelict site.
The Naas service station will be located just off Junction 9 on the M7, and will feature Popeyes and Taco Bell outlets, M&S Food, Crafted Kitchen & Deli as well as an Applegreen forecourt and convenience store. A drive thru is also expected to be delivered sometime in the future.
Cllr Clear said he was given the expected opening timeframe during a recent tour of the new facility. While no specific date has yet been confirmed, he said the development is expected to begin operating during the first week of November.
The opening is expected to be a “soft opening”, with no formal launch event planned initially.
The site has undergone a major transformation after reportedly sitting derelict for almost a decade, after the Cemex site that operated there fell into disuse.
He said he worked to have the site placed on the derelict sites register, claiming it took three attempts before the council ultimately agreed.
He described the project as an example of what can be achieved when councillors, council officials, planners and developers work together to address derelict sites.
“That was Kildare's biggest derelict site,” he said. “So when you get them all working together, this is the result we get.”
Cllr Clear added that similar efforts are being undertaken in other parts of the county, including Kilcock, with the aim of tackling dereliction and bringing unused sites back into productive use.
