Cllr Chris Pender has been selected as the general election candidate for the Social Democrats in Kildare South.

Cllr Pender, who was re-elected to Kildare County Council in June, represents the Newbridge area, is a director of the Newbridge Family Resource Centre and the South Western Regional Drugs and Alcohol Task Force.

Through his work with mental health charity ‘Hope D’ he has consistently advocated for vulnerable people in Kildare, and has also been an active campaigner for improved public transport in the county.

“With years of experience serving the people of Newbridge LEA and throughout the county, I have seen firsthand the challenges our communities face, whether it’s access to housing, education, mental health services or addiction support,” said Cllr Pender.

“My focus has always been on putting forward real, practical solutions, such as building affordable homes, improving public services and making sure every member of the community feels safe and supported.

“As a general election candidate, I’m now ready to take this fight to a national level and deliver the change that Kildare South deserves,” he concluded.

“Since he was first elected to Kildare County Council in 2019, Chris has earned a well-deserved reputation as a hardworking councillor who is genuinely committed to making Kildare a great place to live,” said Holly Cairns, leader of the Social Democrats.

“He shares the party’s vision for a better Ireland where quality of life is enhanced by proper investment in public services, mental health supports and a healthcare system that is affordable and accessible to all.

“Chris would make an excellent TD for Kildare South and be an important new voice in national politics. I wish him every success with his election campaign.”
