Emergency services responded to the blaze at 2am on Thursday 12 June

GARDAÍ have launched an investigation following an incident of criminal damage by fire at a family residence on Main Street, Castledermot, in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Kildare County Council confirmed that a call concerning a domestic fire in the heart of Castledermot was received after 2am on Thursday, June 12.

Fire Stations in Athy and Baltinglass were alerted and both attended the scene. The first appliance attended at 2.43am and the fire was extinguished just after 3am, and all appliances had left the scene by 5.13pm.

While local fire crews responded swiftly and successfully extinguished the blaze, two people were in the house at the time were harmed and were taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Gardaí have confirmed that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fire are ongoing.
