Traffic calming in Ballymore Eustace
THERE have been calls for the introduction of traffic-calming measures in Ballymore Eustace ahead of disruption set to take place due to drainage works in the town.
At the meeting of Naas Municipal District on 13 January, cllr Evie Sammon brought forward a motion seeking that Kildare County Council starts the traffic-calming project at the same time as when the drainage works are taking place on Barrack Street.
Cllr Sammon stated that “significant but necessary disruption” will take place due to the drainage works, and that introducing the traffic management at the same time would avoid further disruption at a later time and would also be a measure to “avail of the cost savings though shared traffic management systems”.
In a social media post last month after getting confirmation that the traffic-calming works would resume, she described the “lengthy process” involved in getting the works delivered.
At the meeting on 13 January, cllr Salmon further detailed that she had been in contact with a senior engineer from the county council, and had been told that she would be sent drawings for the traffic-calming project in the next few weeks. Cllr Salmon added that she wanted the drawings as soon as possible.
A report issued by Daragh Conlon, the council’s acting senior engineer of capital projects, in response to cllr Salmon’s motion stated that the Road Projects Team ‘will engage with the municipal district engineer to ensure that traffic-calming and drainage works are completed in a cost efficient and timely manner’.
The report further detailed that the implementation of traffic count along Barrack Street is proposed for this month. It is also proposed to schedule a meeting ‘to review the two schemes and finalise the next steps thereafter’.
The report added that ‘an updated design drawing can be circulated once available for further discussion’.
