Traffic calming scheme proposed for Newbridge schools

TWO Newbridge schools could avail of a proposed road safety scheme aimed at protecting pupils at the school gates.

Kildare County Council has published proposals for the St Conleth's Infant School and Patrician Primary School Safe Routes to School Scheme, which would introduce a range of traffic calming and pedestrian safety measures on the Dublin Road and Chapel Lane.

The proposed works include speed control ramps, new controlled and uncontrolled pedestrian crossings, upgraded public bus stops, pencil bollards and school zone road markings. The measures are intended to improve safety for vulnerable road users, particularly children walking and cycling to school.

The proposals have been published under Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994, with the council now inviting members of the public to have their say before any decision is made.

Drawings detailing the proposed works are available for public inspection from Tuesday, July 28, until Friday, August 28 on Kildare County Council's consultation website and at the council's offices in Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park, Naas, between 9am and 5pm on weekdays.

Submissions and observations can be made online through the council's consultation portal or in writing to the Senior Executive Officer, Transport, Mobility and Open Spaces Department, Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park, Naas, before 5pm on Friday, August 28. The council has asked that submissions be made using one method only, either online or in hard copy.
