Yellow Weather warning for Kildare

Members of the Kildare County Council Severe Weather Assessment Team attended a Met Eireann briefing this afternoon (17 February), and a Status Yellow Rain warning has been issued for the county valid from 11pm, on Tuesday (17 February) until 11pm Wednesday, 18 February.

In addition, a River Flood Advisory is in place, valid from 6am Wednesday 18 February through to 11am Friday 20 February, due to saturated ground and heavy, persistent rainfall.

Additional forecasted rainfall may trigger further flooding, given current ground, and river conditions.

Kildare County Council will continue to monitor the situation and prepare for any localised flooding risk.

Members of the public are urged to monitor Met Eireann forecasts over the next 24 hours as conditions may change.

Visit www.met.ie for the most up to date information, while further information is also available across the Met Éireann App, social media platforms (@meteireann) and other news media sources.

The public is advised not to try and bypass Road Closed signs – the road ahead is unsafe, the damage may be hidden beneath water, and you may be putting your life at risk.

Also, do not drive through floodwater – turn back and use another route.

Allow for disruption when commuting over the coming days, and plan extra travel time and reduce speed.

The public can expect surface water, debris and poor visibility.

Check with Transport Operators when planning journeys.

Stay back from riverbanks, streams and canals – water levels may rise quickly.

Keep children and pets away from waterways and flooded areas.

The Irish Coast Guard advice remains: “Stay Back, Stay High, Stay Dry.” Check in with neighbours, older people or anyone who may need assistance in case conditions worsen.

ESB Networks is highlighting the dangers posed by fallen live wires and is advising the public and the emergency services to stay away from these fallen cables and to report such cases to it immediately. E SB Emergency Services can be contacted at 1800 372 999. The public can monitor www.PowerCheck.ie. in regards to power restoration times.
