The Ralph Beckett-trained Amiloc comes up against Joseph O'Brien’s Al Riffa, Aidan O'Brien’s Illinois and six others when putting his unbeaten record on the line in the Group 1 Comer Group International Irish St Leger, one of four World Pool races on the second day of Irish Champions Festival at the Curragh on Sunday.
Also standing in the way of Amiloc adding to his success in Royal Ascot’s King Edward VII Stakes and extending his winning run to six are the Karl Burke-trained Al Qareem and the Gerry Keane-trained Crystal Black, with German hope Waldadler, trained by Pavel Vovcenko, Adrian Murray’s Dallas Star, the Joseph O'Brien-trained Leinster and Queenstown, another for Aidan O'Brien, completing the line up for the final Classic of the season.
The season’s leading rider Dylan Browne McMonagle comes in for the ride on the first Australian-trained runner on the Flat in Ireland as the Henry Dwyer-trained Asfoora tops a 16-runner field for the Group 1 Bar One Racing Flying Five Stakes.
On the back of her Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes win at York, Asfoora now comes up against the likes of Aidan O'Brien’s Whistlejacket, Karl Burke’s Night Raider, Adrian Murray’s pair Bucanero Fuerte and Arizona Blaze, She’s Quality, trained by Jack Davison, Fozzy Stack’s Two Stars and the Tim Easterby-trained Art Power.
Venetian Sun has six fillies to beat if she is to extend her unbeaten run to five in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes. Karl Burke’s charge held off Aidan O'Brien’s Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes hope Gstaad when winning the Group 1 Prix Morny at Deauville and she now takes on the champion trainer’s Composing, a two-time course and distance winner and unbeaten in her last three starts. Aidan O'Brien has also left in Beautify and Precise, with Suzie Songs, runner-up to Composing in the Group 2 Alpha Centauri Debutante Stakes at the Curragh, representing Ger Lyons, and Pivotal Attack and Skydance running for Joe Murphy and Willie McCreery respectively.
Charlie Appleby’s Saba Desert and the Eve Johnson Houghton-trained Zavateri look to extend unbeaten runs of their own in the Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes. But there is a strong home challenge with Aidan O'Brien fielding three, the early favourite Gstaad, Italy and Dorset while Joseph O'Brien has his wide-margin Leopardstown winner North Coast among the six runners.
The Paddy Twomey-trained One Look and Ger Lyons’ Red Letter are vying for favouritism for the Group 2 Moyglare “Jewels” Blandford Stakes for which 11 horses are declared. Gavin Cromwell’s Snellen, the Jessica Harrington-trained Barnavara and Henry de Bromhead’s Higher Leaves might well give the big two most to do.

A field of 16 has been declared for the Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes with the unbeaten trio of Gavin Cromwell’s Joyful Tidings, Karl Burke’s Alparsian and the Ger Lyons-trained By The Lake clearly leading the way.
Racing at the Curragh on Sunday begins with the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Bold Lad Handicap (1.30pm) and the race boasts the biggest field of the weekend with 25 horses going to post. Ollie Sangster’s hat-trick seeker Tuco Salamanca, the Michael O'Callaghan-trained Red Evolution and Stephen Thorne’s Sir Les Patterson look to be the main contenders along with Edward Lynam’s Keke and the Katie McGivern-trained Kendall Roy.
The William Haggas-trained Crown Of Oaks is the clear early favourite for the Festival’s finale, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Northfields Handicap which has 23 runners. The Jessica Harrington-trained Lady In Paris, Joseph O'Brien’s Glen To Glen, Dermot Weld’s pair Sujet and Jagged Edge and the Bill Farrell-trained State Actor all have the form to run big races.
