There was incredible drama at the K Club in Straffan on Sunday afternoon as Rory McIlroy clinched his second Amgen Irish Open in thrilling fashion.
McIlroy finally clinched the title, much to the delight of the rapturous home support, on the third play-off after the battle between himself and Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren went right to the wire.
A final day 66 leaving Lagergren on -17 in the clubhouse looked to be enough for the Swede to be crowned champion but McIlroy drained a 20 foot putt on the 18th hole for an eagle to force a play-off.
The reaction from the crowd to that putt will live long in Irish golfing folklore.
As we get ready for a play-off at the K Club, Rory McIlroy's clutch eagle putt is worth a second, third and even fourth look.

“The support of the crowd out there and playing in that atmosphere, especially coming down those last few holes knowing what I needed to do, the crowd spurred me on.
"It’s an incredible day. That eagle putt on the 18 to get into the play-off will probably go down as one of the coolest moments in my career,” said McIlroy after the win.
It is McIlory’s second Irish Open win at the K Club after a similarly dramatic win in 2016 and he picks up a cool $1,020,000.
