Athy is invited to ‘Drive the Dark Winter Away’ at Christmas concert 

THIS DECEMBER, Athy’s Capella Productions (formerly, Athy Musical and Dramatic Society), invites audiences to gather in the beautiful surroundings of St Michael’s Church, Athy, for a special seasonal event titled ‘Drive the Dark Winter Away’.

Building on the much-loved tradition of While Shepherds Watched, this new production embraces the same spirit of reflection and celebration while introducing a fresh blend of music, prose and poetry to mark the turning of the year and the coming of light.

The event will take place in St Michael’s Church, Athy on Sunday 21 December at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at a reasonable €15, and can be bought on Eventbrite.ie or locally in JM Computers.

Directed by Aideen Tracey, the evening will feature performances by Athy Comhaltas, Paul Linehan, and Kevin Morrin, vocalists from local youth music collaboration Made of Athy (MOA), and of course, the Capella Choir and Orchestra with the spoken-word ensemble Capella Voices.

Under the musical direction of Joseph Gorman, the choir and orchestra will bring a rich and atmospheric musical backdrop to this year’s performance, weaving seamlessly with readings and reflective moments throughout the evening.

The event promises to be an uplifting occasion and a moment for the community to come together, celebrate local talent, and share in the warmth and artistry that have long made Athy’s Christmas gatherings so special.
