The 'Spirit of Brigid' festival begins this weekend, and people from Kildare can expect a wide range of special events

The 2025 Brigid festival boasts a massive line up of wonderful events across Kildare from this week into the start of February.

The festival’s events celebrate St Brigid while inviting people countrywide to join together for a diverse set of festivals, concerts, workshops and talks.

This Friday, January 24, is the opening night of the festival Sallins will be buzzing with a floating concert on a canal barge with musician Megan O’Neill and friends at 7.30pm.

Saturday will see a wide range of events and activities across Kildare, including ‘ This Wonderful World: A Day For Wellness & Joy’ in The Wonderful Barn, Leixlip from 11am, which will feature wellness workshops, sound therapy sessions and a fantastic range of artisan food trucks. Talks and workshops will include Professor Noel Fitzpatrick (Channel 4’s Supervet and No.1 best-selling author), Michelin Green Star restauranteur Jess Murphy of Kai Restaurant in Galway, storyteller Helena Byrne, Elaine McDonald of Saor Dance, Jennie Cantwell & the Koru Wellness team, and local historian Denis McCarthy.

Followed by the sold out ‘This Wonderful World’ concert, featuring Mary Coughlan, HamsandwicH, Orla Gartland, Lisa O’Neill, and much more!

Sunday will see another sold out concert starring Bob Geldof, Danny O’Reilly, Amble, Jack L, Robert Grace and MOA in Athy.

Thursday, January 30 will see the ‘Beauty of Brigid’ event in Athy Art House on Leinster St from 2pm.

That evening, Maynooth will be lit up with fire at the ‘Carrying Her Flame’ event starting at 7.15pm, and will host a procession and fire performance. Don’t miss this non-ticketed event!

Starting on Friday, January 31 until February 3, join artist James Winnett on a guided tour of the Stones of the Hollow Hill, a new public artwork for Kerdiffstown Park near Naas. James will share the inspiration behind the work, insights into the carving process and guide you through the story across the 18 stones. The tour will conclude at the summit of the hill with an opportunity to witness the Brigid’s Day solar alignment at sunrise or sunset. Tickets are free and can be booked through Eventbrite.
