ACTIVE retirement group Larries on the Move brought similar groups from Kildare, Wicklow, and Dublin to ‘meet and mingle’ at their Easter festival, with lots of fun and entertainment in the mix.
Larries invited eight different active retirement groups, including Kildare, Kilcock, Newbridge, Hawkfield, Kill, Blessington among others. The event took place in St Laurence’s GAA, Narraghmore and ran from 1pm until 5pm.

Attending on the day were familiar faces such as Martin Heydon TD, Mark Wall TD, cllr Aoife Breslin and president of Active Retirement Ireland Mai Quaid.

“The main thing is to get people together to mix and mingle and make new friends,” said Eileen Dowling, secretary of Larries on the Move.
The day wasn’t just about mingling, but featured an entertaining line-up, including Village Voices, Newcastle Ladies Choir, and St Dominic’s choir. The groups also enjoyed a performance by local folk singer Joseph Gorman, who finished off the day with a few songs.

A few attendees were lucky enough to bring home prizes from the raffle, which included various hampers from food and drink to cosmetics.

This fantastic event would not have been possible without the wonderful help from the boys and girls from St Laurence’s GAA Club, who helped people in from the car park in the lashing rain with umbrellas at the ready.
“They totally took it on themselves. It’s great to see it,” said Eileen, who commended the teens for their community spirit.
