Talks celebrate 1,500 years of Kildare landmark's history

MONASTEREVIN Tidy Towns have an exciting series of events lined up this month, which goes through the last 1,500 years of history at Moore Abbey.
Historian Brian Walsh will be giving a seated audience a talk about the history of Moore Abbey on Wednesdays 19 August, 26 August, and 2 September from 7.30pm until 9.30pm in the Old Hall at Moore Abbey.
The Abbey, which was recently acquired by Kildare County Council, is a historic site in Monasterevin. Originally built a monastery in the 5th century, the Abbey later became the seat of the Earls of Drogheda. Behind the estate lies a the popular Moore Abbey Woods, which is a 250-acre mixed woodland, famous for its beautiful bluebells which bloom in spring and early summer.
“It’s a great opportunity to go into the Main Hall and see O’Connor’s piano and hear a talk about Moore Abbey’s History,” said Adam McCallister from Monasterevin Tidy Towns.
