Year to remember for Newbridge Musical Theatre

Newbridge Musical Society

AS the curtain closes on another unforgettable year, Newbridge Musical Theatre is celebrating a season full of achievements, milestones, and magical moments — both on stage and within our vibrant community.

The group are delighted to announce that our 2026 production will be the iconic musical West Side Story.

This legendary show will be performed next Easter in Newbridge College Theatre, marking a long-awaited and much-anticipated return to a show that means so much to our society.

West Side Story was originally scheduled for production in 2020, but like many other creative projects, it was unfortunately cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic after rehearsals had begun. To finally bring it to the stage years later feels incredibly special.

Director on this occasion will be Cian O’Dowd; Dave McGauran takes up the musical director role while Áine Foley is choreographer.

This announcement comes following a hugely successful 2025 season. The group’s recent production, The Witches of Eastwick, wowed audiences and earned a coveted AIMS Adjudicator’s Special Award nomination for “Moment of Theatre.”

Congratulations to the sensational witches — Keelin Kilduff, Nicola Hennessey, and Bronwyn Andrews — and the devilishly brilliant Mark Trundle, for their exceptional stagecraft and comic flair. The group look forward to cheering them on at the AIMS Awards Weekend in Killarney this June.

Offstage, this season has been just as spectacular. Thanks to incredible community support, we’ve had one of our most successful fundraising years to date.

From our Grand Prize Raffle and fantastic Race Night at Johnson’s Liffey Arms, to Carol Singing, our energetic Singathon in Whitewater Shopping Centre, packed-out Table Quiz and the St Patrick's day parade - the generosity and spirit of our supporters have been nothing short of inspiring.

These events not only raise vital funds, but also bring our members and local community together in the best way possible.

Looking ahead, the group would love to invite new people to join us, whether on stage or behind the scenes.

Musical theatre is a true team effort — from singing, dancing, and acting to costumes, hair and makeup, set building, props, lighting, sound, and front-of-house. Whatever your skill or interest, there’s a place for you in our society — and it’s always great fun. If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, now is the perfect time!
