Freedom on the Water barge on the Barrow in Athy

Those from Athy should save the date for this year’s Tidy Towns River Clean, which will take place on 26 April.

The annual event is in its 26th year, and is a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together to get the waterways ready for upcoming water events in 2025.

At last year’s 25th anniversary, the clean up brought in 145 dedicated volunteers from the community.

Community members, businesses and groups such as the scouts and the civil defense are few of the many who help out every year, which is always greatly appreciated.

The annual spring clean is also very grateful for the help of Athy College year on year, with students helping out the community and clearing the waterways for the enjoyment of all.

Patricia Berry from Athy Town Promoters, stressed the importance of the annual clean up.

“The Blueway is one of the biggest assets in our town. We have so many activities on the waterways from May on.”

This year Athy Town Promoters and Tidy Towns are hoping to carry on the good work, and invite anyone from the community that would like to lend a hand for a few hours.
