Derek Redican formally presented his portrait of Michael Collins to the Defence Forces and the Department of Defence at a ceremony in Newbridge

NEWBRIDGE-BASED artist Derek Redican formally presented his portrait of Michael Collins to the Defence Forces and the Department of Defence at a ceremony in Newbridge.

The painting, created by Redican as a personal tribute, now joins the Defence Forces’ collection as a symbolic reminder of Collins’s enduring legacy.

In recognition of his gift, Derek was presented with a Defence Forces plaque and a selection of gifts.

Speaking at the event, Derekreflected on his inspiration:

“Michael Collins has always stood for courage, vision, and sacrifice – qualities I admire and that I know still inspire the Defence Forces.

“I created this painting with huge respect, and I’m really pleased to hand it over into their care. It feels like the right home for it.”
