Kildare keeper raises thousands for Sensational Kids
Three students from Technological University Dublin who organised the Family Fun Day in Kill: Jenny Keenan, Eva McGovern, Abby Shiels (Dublin GAA Senior Goalkeeper), Mya Gray McCluskey.
A FAMILY Fun Day in Kill last Sunday (23 November) managed to raise over €2,700 for local children’s charity ‘Sensational Kids’.
The day was based around a very original idea of ‘Beat the Keeper’ featuring Abby Shiels, Dublin’s AllStar goalie, and pal of the three local organisers, Jenny Keenan, Eva McGovern, and Mya Geay-McCluskey – all of whom are students in Technical University Dublin (TUD).
The afternoon of merriment has generously hosted by Kill GAA, and alongside the thrill of the penalties, the raffle continued the sporting theme of the day, with prizes including a full-sized table tennis table, a basketball net, and a voucher for a day on a pitch and putt simulator.
The dak began at 1pm, and featured all the usual craic ingredients from buns to face-painting.
“Special thanks to Dublin’s Goalkeeper, Abby Shiels, for joining the excitement and taking part in the penalty shootouts!” said Brian O’Neill, Fundraising Manager, Sensational Kids.
“Huge appreciation to the three amazing students from Technological University Dublin whose hard work made this event possible, and a big shout-out to everyone who came along and contributed to such a meaningful cause, because together, we’re making a difference!” Not forgetting who the day is really for, and to ensure inclusivity, there will be a Sensory Corner for children who need a calm space away from the hustle and bustle.
All the proceeds go directly to Sensational Kids, helping provide life-changing therapy, sensory toys that open doors to learning, and empowering parents and teachers with the knowledge to guide every child towards success.
Headquartered on the Melitta Road in Kildare Town, the organisation also operates centres in Cork, Mayo, and Monaghan, and has directly supported over 11,000 children.
