CILL Dara Historical Society held an event to showcase local talent as a fundraiser for Kildare Town Community School on 30 January.
In recent years, a staple of the Kildare Town calendar were the Irish Country Music nights organised by the late Joseph Connelly who ran Cill Dara Historical Society.

As a tribute to this legacy, the new committee published a fantastic book ‘Kildare Town Legacy’ at Christmas and now seek to support the school and promote the talent in Kildare which was a cause dear to Joe’s heart.

“We would like to thank the board of management, the parents association, the members of the historical society, the performers who are giving their services free of charge and of course the students themselves,” said historical society PRO, Mario Corrigan.

“This night is designed to raise funds for the school and we are grateful for the support and the opportunity to showcase the talent in Kildare and in the school but also the other events during the year such as ‘Legally Blonde’ – the school musical in March.”

Principal, John Hayes, applauded the opportunity and potential for the event.

“Maybe we can start something that will become an annual event to support the school and provide a platform for the students and the community to come together,” he said.

Kildare town had the chance to kick off those January blues and enjoyed a marvellous night’s entertainment in KTCS on the Dunmurry Road, Kildare.
“The byword is ‘Let’s Make it a Night to Remember: There is some talent in this town,” said Principal Hayes.
It builds on a very successful event for Culture Night in Kildare Town Community Library and featured the Ciaran Wynne Band, Mairéad Carroll, St Brigid’s Community Choir, the Foggy-Wu and Murdock, Vivienne McWey, Solas Bhríde, Liam Quinlivan, Rev. Philip McKinley, Mario Corrigan: and, of course, students from Kildare Town Community School.
