Minnie the cat

NEWBRIDGE cat, Minnie, went on a wild adventure recently, travelling over 20km from her hometown to Narraghmore.

The little tabby cat, who went missing on Wednesday 4 March, was found in Narraghmore by a resident nearly two weeks later.

Minnie's family had been relentlessly looking for her, day and night, putting up posters, knocking on doors, talking to workers on building sites, checking every Lost & Found Pet page possible and notifying vets and local animal rescues.

Luckily, a family from Newbridge took the cat in and notified the KWWSCPA who were able to assist in getting her home to her family, all thanks to her microchip details.

Minnie was welcomed home recently by her family who were very glad to have her home.

Head of the Trap Neuter and Return (TNR) section at KWWSPCA, Claire McMahon, spoke about missing cats in Kildare, and put Minnie’s safe return down to her microchip:

“This happens quite a lot and thankfully, she was chipped, not many are,” she said. “We have been able to reunite a few cats without it but helps so much quicker with a chip.”

Claire also included that the KWWSPCA once had a case of a male cat going missing from near Naas Hospital, only to be found eight years later in Sallins.

Ms McMahon shared that the family were quick to get him microchipped on his return!

For Minnie, what she got up to in her two weeks away from home is still a mystery to us. Did she hitch a lift to Newbridge in someone’s car or did she make her way there all on paw? We will probably never know, and I doubt she’ll tell us.
