Memorial garden opens at Athy retirement village

THE launch of the Clonmullion Retirement Village Memorial Garden has been described as ‘a truly lovely afternoon’ by one of the people behind the project.

The Memorial Garden was officially launched by cathaoirleach of Athy Municipal District Aoife Breslin and village resident Johhny Donovan, with 100 people in attendance at the event.

Cllr Breslin, said: “As Cathaoirleach I am delighted to attend the opening of the Memorial Garden in Clonmulliom Retirement Village, today. It is a real pleasure spending time with special friends. Well done Johnny, committee and all volunteers.” Among those present were former TD Jack Wall, local representatives from Athy Town Promoters, Athy Tidy Towns, O.N.E., the Athy Women’s Network Group, residents, Garda Inspector Laura Dragoi, Community Garda Seán O’Mahong and many dedicated volunteers – all coming together to mark this meaningful occasion.
Patrica Berry of the Athy Town Promoters, said: ‘What a truly lovely afternoon at the launch of the memorial garden. Huge congratulations to Johnny and to all the incredible residents and volunteers whose hard work made this space so special.

“The garden is beautiful - a serene and meaningful place for the entire community to reflect, remember, and enjoy.

It is a touching tribute to those they have lost,” Patricia, added.
