Klub Kildare will field a girls team in the League of Ireland for the first time in 2025

Klub Kildare will add to their number of teams for the 2025 season after it was confirmed today that their application to field a girls team in the Under 17 League of Ireland from the start of next season was successful.

Klub Kildare was admitted to the League of Ireland in 2019 with one under 13 team and have quickly progressed to its current position of fielding four male teams, at under 14, 15, 17 and 20 level.

Secretary of Klub Kildare Pat McNally said he was delighted with the news and said it is another very important step for the club to take.

“This is a hugely significant day for Klub Kildare. It was always the ambition for Klub Kildare to have both boys and girls teams compete in the League of Ireland and we will now be able to offer the same opportunity to Under 17 girls to play elite level football within Kildare that we offer to boys.

“It is our ultimate goal to eventually field men and womens teams in the senior League of Ireland league and this confirmation of our first female team is very important step on the ladder to one day having the full compliment of boys, girls, mens and womens teams.” This Under 17 womens team will be the first female team from the county to play League of Ireland at the highest level.

With their place in the league now confirmed, the hard work of assembling, first of all, a management team and then a playing squad begins.

“We will now advertise for the position of manager and coaches for this team and we will shortly hold trials for girls born in 2008, 2009 and 2010,” said McNally.

Girls who interested in playing National League football should complete the expression of interest form which will be available on Klub Kildare’s Facebook page and Instagram page within the next few days.
