'The most popular line I hear is I need to lose weight before I can join the gym'

THERE are three things I have seen repeat themselves time after time in the gym over the years and they are the three reasons people fail repeatedly.

The first one is the comfort zone. This is where people become so comfortable doing what they are doing and they don’t like to change.

About 80 per cent of people find reasons not to change even when the change is positive or beneficial.

They know they need to change for their health but they are afraid of not being able to do an exercise or not knowing what do and looking incompetent.

This is not an issue in the right environment and should never be a reason to not want to improve your health.

In the right environment with the right coach you will be supported and guided along your journey showing you everything you need to know.

The most popular line I hear is I need to lose weight before I can join the gym. This is counter intuitive as joining the gym should assist in your weight loss journey however people use this excuse repeatedly.

The gym is not full of supermodels so there should be no fear of body shaming as everybody in the gym is just trying to get a little healthier and healthy does not have a specific size, we can be healthy at a range of different sizes.

The second one is 'learned helplessness'. This is where people tell themselves repeatedly that they can’t do it, they are always finding reasons why they can’t do something new or different.

This generally comes from many years of trying to do something whether it is lose weight or some other challenge and failing. The thing people don’t understand is that the diet world is not designed to work and does not work long term.

People take it as a personal failure each time they are not successful. They add this as credit to the learned helplessness account and the next time they are confronted with a challenge they tell themselves they can’t achieve it and talk themselves out of it without even first of all trying it.

The third one is the path of least resistance people are always looking for an easy way to achieve a result.

The problem with that is that nothing worthwhile was ever achieved easily.

This is so popular in the weight loss world particularly with women. They are always looking for the next best trick to lose weight, what are the celebrities doing now that is keeping them so slim.

This does not work though as there is no quick trick or simple solution to achieving anything worthwhile in life no matter what it is you are trying to achieve.

The only thing that guarantees success is grit; the problem is that most people do not possess grit and have become too distracted in today’s modern world of social media scrolling on Instagram, Facebook and Tik-Tok.

To be truly successful we need to stick with our goal day after day, week after week and year after year. 

Turn up day in and day out and be willing to put in the hard work. 

Always making step towards our goal, it has become incredible easy to stand out from the majority once you can stick to the process. So don’t be afraid and show yourself to be the one in a million that you are.
