Kildare Rescue Tails: Charity receives grant of over €60,000

St Mary's College, Naas pupils with Autumn the dog
WE begin with good news as the KWWSPCA’s bank balance is set to improve soon due to its successful application for a government grant to assist with its operations.
We would like to thank the Minister and The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine for granting the KWWSPCA an amount of €62,025 for this coming year.
Our annual veterinary bills are in excess of €200,000 you can imagine how much fundraising is required by us!
This animal welfare grant is very much needed and will greatly help with our overheads.
A little story from a past rescue dog called Gracie.
‘I was visiting the shelter this week and met a boy dog wearing what looked like a big lampshade around his head. I didn’t laugh at him in case he was upset and anyway I had to wear a smaller one of those one time myself.
‘My Mum said he had to wear it because he had an operation at the vets to stop him liking girl dogs too much. He was very friendly and kept sniffing me so I don’t think the operation worked.
‘Would you believe that somebody didn’t want him anymore so they brought him to the Vet and left him there for a big sleep. The vet didn’t think he was old or sick enough that he would need “a big sleep” so after he had his operation he was brought to the shelter to get a new home with somebody who really did want him.
‘He didn’t seem tired or sleepy to me so I hope he gets a new home soon where he’ll be happy and loved.’ Giving talks in schools about the work of the KWWSPCA is part of our commitment to the wider Community. One of our Volunteers gave such a talk this week to the 5th year students of St. Mary’s College, Naas and brought along rescue dog Autumn for added interest. They were a great group to meet. Perhaps we’ll gain some Volunteers in the future!
