Kildare Rescue Tails: Overlooked lurchers deserve a chance
THIS week we wish to send our thanks for the marvellous support we received at recent fundraisers — our book aale in Kilcullen and Walking Sunday at Punchestown — which brought in much-needed funds to keep the show on the road.
Our supporters never let us down. Some of our KWWSPCA volunteers are looking forward to hosting a stand at the Carole Nash Historic Motor Festival at Mondello Park on Saturday-Sunday, 9-10 May.
We will be happy to talk to you about our rescue and rehoming work. We won’t have any of our animals with us for this one however as dogs are not allowed on site for very good reason — the noise level definitely wouldn’t suit them!
This will be our second year to attend this event so we can highly recommend it as a great day out for all motoring enthusiasts with track racing, exhibitors, vintage cars and plenty of entertainment for the family.
Full details of the event can be found on the website www.mondellopark.ie/events.
We regularly receive updates on our adopted animals from owners so smitten that they want to share with us their photographs and stories of their new family members.

We hear this type of phrase over and over again as we ourselves notice too that lurchers are a very overlooked breed when people are searching for a pet dog. We always seem to have at least one in our shelter but have several at the moment who are finding it difficult to be chosen amid all the cute puppies and small dogs.
The attached photo shows two young males, Ralph & Jasper and two young females, Nina and Ethel (who is technically a greyhound!) who are among those currently waiting the longest for their forever homes.
We truly hope somebody spots them soon. Our work often takes us out into the community on the invitation of a school/club/workplace.
Two of our volunteers and their dogs were delighted to recently pay a visit to Kildangan Scouts to talk to the children about our rescue work.

There was great excitement around the dogs who loved all the attention received.

Our volunteers very gratefully accepted a lovely donation of dog and cat food to take back to the Shelter for the less fortunate.
